Default rattling noise-top front of engine

Started about 2 mos. ago at 2800 rpm. Now from 2400 and up. Sounds like bb's in a can. More noticable at constant engine speeds, goes away under decel. or accel. 9K on bike.
Rode about a hundered miles this am and it is starting to get to me.
Need help.

I'd start with the heat shields.

Do you think outside or inside the engine?? Or maybe in Primary??
If inside maybe valve train. Stock engine or modified in some way? Are the pushrods stock or adjustable?? Rocker arm supports loose?? If modified with big springs clearance in rocker covers maybe?
Just trying to think of places that could becausing noises in engine.

I've got about the same thing, but mine is a ticking noise that sounds like it's coming from the front cylinder near the top. My bike's got 12K on it. I think I'll pull the rocker cover and make sure everything is kosher.

One man's rattle is another man's tick. I think it's the same thing we are hearing.
My engine is stock - may well be time to have a look under the rocker cover.
Thanks.

While installing new bars I pulled the dash off and found one of the little stick on clips that hold the wiring had come off and was bouncing around in there. I haven't finished the bar install yet so I haven't been able to see if that helped or not. I doubt it but you never know.
