Going to go the gear drive route and was wondering which is the best cam to use. I have a stock 03 ultra with screaming eagle mufflers and a re-map of the stock computer. I know some of you have used both the Andrews 21 and the 27 and would like some feedback from your experiences before and after. thanks.

 

The 26 cam is great for a stock motor......the 27 goes into a EVO

 

Yeah, maybe it was the 21 or 26. I know there is a couple for stock motors.

 

I just got my 99 RKC back last night after having the 26G install with re-map of the PC111, the dyno sheet shows 83.53 on torque and 73.05 on HP. This is with the V&H dresser duels, Ness big sucker and Rush slip on's with 2.0 baffle. To cold and snowy to ride and tell you if I can tell the difference, but shoe tensioner peace of mind is there...

I have used both the 21's and the 26's and if you are not going to go big bore with head work go with the 21's. Even if you are going to go with big bore, but no head work go with the 21's. You will be around 90ft/tq and it runs strong from idle to over 100mph. The people that try to talk you out of 21's have not used them. You get more enjoyment from accelleration from 2000-4000 rpms then you do from 4000-6000 rpms. How often are you bumping the rev limiter probably never. Be honest with what you want. If you want to drag race someone in the 1/4 mile 26's might have the edge but if you want roll on power from 50-60mph to 90mph or 100mph the 21's will win out every time. I ran 21's for about 30,000 miles before switching to 26's for the last 20,000 miles. I like them both but 21's get the nod.

 

I'm running 21g's with a 95' motor with bigger valves and porting and this thing will pull from 1500 rpm to over 120 MPH and never have to shift! Can you say GRUNT! If you were on a dyna, or softtail then the 26 would be fine but with a big dresser the 21 will get you moving sooner and easier. With stock compression you need a cam that will close the intake sooner so you start building torque sooner and that is what the 21 will do.

 

Best new cams I've found are the Andrews 54 and better yet the RR525. The 525 just gets better with compression and head work.
