Default Pinion Shaft Bearing - EVO

After splitting the cases in my 1994 EVO I was surprised to see that the right side crank bearing (pinion shaft) was the old design, which has 2 seperate cages side by side instead of on large cage. I was told that this was the bearing used from the 1950s to 1986. After that they went to the large bearing. Is this true? I need to replace mine. do I go with the old style that was on there or go with the newer single cage style?[/align]

Does the bearing have a number stamped on it? Sounds like it may be a double row ball bearing that may have changed because the manufacturer of the bearing itself changed their design. Been selling that stuff for almost 30 years...I might be able to answer your question.
