I need some advice
I'mthinking of going to the HD 103 kit(29903-07a) for a better bottom end and mid range power,I don't get over 4,000 rpm too often and ride two up mostly in hilly areas in the northeast. I have the andrews 26g cams which didn't do too much (81hp,81t @13.6 afr) probably because of the true duals. Will these cams work with the 103 kit or do I need to change? or is there another cam that would be stronger? My dealers price is around 1000.00 installed soit seems like a good deal, please give me your opinion.

Tru Duals certainly do rob low end power but the good news is they work better on a 103' than a 95'. The 26 cam will be a bit small for the 103' plus the compression will be slightly higher than you need for the 26.....If you never go over 4000 rpm I would suggest the SE 255 cam. This cam has AWESOME lower end power second to none but it WILL peter out at 4000 rpm VERY quickly.

I would recommend the Woods TW5G if you really want low end grunt and want to stay with a gear drive cam. The TW6 is also a good choice but a little more low to mid-range, doesn't come on quite as quick as the 5. The 5 does start to drop off though at about 4000rpm.

Steve & Dalton,is the tw5g a bolt in cam? Do you think either cam alone would make a difference? I was thinking of the stage 2 hillside heads with the 26g cam but my dealer though the 103 was a better way to go,I know what your thinking but the head guy in the shop has beenstraight me. I thoughtthe 96 should be big enough with the right camand maybe heads instead of going bigger.

I think the 26G is a great cam for you. I have the 21G in my 95 inch motor and love it. The 26G closes the intake at 35 degrees which will start making good torque at 2100 rpm and pull hard to 5000 rpm. It's a great real world cam. When people suggest a cam always look at when the intake closes. If they close later than 40 you really need higher compression to keep the torque down low and then you run into fuel problems. If your going to do head work I would go with bigger valves and some minor porting that matches your cam. Everything has to work together. I wouldn't go over 9.5/1 on compression if you plan to travel for fuel reasons. Sounds like a fun project, gook luck.

For gear drives, I like the Woods TW5G with 575 lift, but I don't think your stock heads will accomodate those, and I would never put Woods 6 cams in without at the very least 10-1 CR, at the minimum. I also have to say, to anyone who hasn't used Wood cams, I don't care how you set them up, they are a noisy cam due to the aggressive ramp design by Bob Wood. It is something that comes along extra at no charge with Wood cams Some don't mind it. I would not put them in another bike for that reason. There are too many other "almost as good or close to as good" cams that are nice and quiet.
I've had had all three of those cams noted above, plus SE 203's and SE 211's. I like the SE 255's better than any for my current riding style and possibly overall just like em better. Nice smooth, linear, pulling power at VERY low rpm. Honestly....if you're in the right gear, I don't feel them drop off very quickly at all. They hold their head up better than the 203's, yet another very underrated cam.
