Default Extended Warranty and cam replacement

Does anyone know just what exactly the extended warranty covers on a cam replacement. What I mean is, are you limited to whatever Harley deems acceptable for the problem. In the alternative can different parts be substitued and if it goes over what Harley dictates, can you make up the difference.

I can only relate my experience. My Extended Service Plan (ESP) covered inspection of the cam chain tensioners which it turns out were fine. It covered replacement with stock parts the two cams (which were worn excessively) and bearings (inner). It also covered new cam shoes, chain, cam support plate, new oil pump, and all labor. I just had to cover the $50 deductible. I believe what is covered is replacement with stock parts and a great deal of what is done is how well the dealer will work for and with you. Mine went to bat for me since I purchased the bike from them, they knew it had good service (either mine or theirs), and the ESP I had was purchased thru them. So, the answer is: it depends.

TK: First, the HD ESP is underwritten by CNA Insurance. The dealer making the repair phones CNA and requests authorization for the repair--the parts being replaced do not have to be returned to CNA--with a MOCO warranty claim, the parts must be returned.

As for the particulars of a cam replacement, I don't know since I am not a tech. When my cam chain tensioners were replaced under the ESP all of the parts (including a new oil pump), oil and filter were covered--I paid a fifty buck deductible.

If you have some specific question about parts, just ask it--knowledgeable folks will gladly help you here.
