Default TW5 cam ?

Can someone give me an advise on how the woods geardrive tw5 cam compares to the tw6 with ported heads. I want good bottom end because I normaly run around town and on the back HWYs. I was told that the 5 hits hard then drops off right away. What rpm does it drop at?
Thanks for your help

The cam is so short it does nose over quick.
How quick it falls off depends on the build.

If you decide you want the cam let me know. I have a set of used take out tw5's. They do have some great bottom end power and midrange.

I built my 95" 03 RKC using the TW5G, HTCC Heads, HTCC Pistons, stock throttle body, Rinehart TDs and a PC III for tuning and ended up with 102hp, 112tq. The torque is all down low, and man didit pull. It is not a high rpm puller though, at about 4k to 4.5k it starts to drop off. But is it a great two up cam that really is strong.

Thanks Dalton,
I don't have a tac, so I don't really know when I shift or what rpm I cruise at. Would I still be able to cruise fine at 70 mph?

Yes, at 70 you are probably turning 2800 to 3200 rpm depending on your bike, I dont know what you ride. I rode the hell outta mine, two up most of the time, lots of long trips and it was really a terrific combination.

The TW5G is .575 lift cam so you really need to change valve springs if runing stock heads, or run the HTCC heads as they are set up to handle that lift. The combination I described on my 03 is a great performer for what a bagger really needs.

The TW6 is a really good cam, but if you really want low end grunt, the 5 moves everything down a bit in the rpm range.

Dalton,
I ride single most of the time depending on where I'm at with a girlfriend. I'm having Latus Motors build my 95 kit. Mike says that the 6 is good for most people but it dosen't make sense to me because he said the 6 would'nt really kick in until 3000 rpm but hangs in good on top.I don't go much over the speed limit, so do I need that much on top.I want to leave my buddies behind when weget it on from a normal cruise. Thanks again.

You are going to have to decide where you want the power, the 5 comes on earlier than the 6, and the 5 only comes in a gear drive. Both make really good tq, just a bit different where it comes on. I ran the 5 with 10.5:1 CR. I am not sure of the max CR for the six, but what you are planning for CR would be fine for either cam.

You would not need a huge spring for that 5 cam. A set of crane 1101 would do you just fine. Easy to swap in. It is not a top end cam but will produce get low end stump puller. Great bagger cam if you are not into revving it super high.
