Woods Cam TW400-6
#21
Time sure flies. 3 years ago.
I have the 400-6 cam in now. Did have a 7H in for awhile. The 400 cam really works.
As said the heads were originally set up for this cam so I really don't know what you might have. I wasn't expecting trouble but I did hold my breath first roll over or two. At that time all I did was change cams. 7H to 400-6.
Something to look into though.
The pistons I have are flatop. With .060 milled heads and .030 gasket in a 107 the CCP is about 200#.
After much noise chasing, for 2.5 years and with a 7H in at first, I got the Woods Lifters and that stopped the valve train noise.
The 7H is a wonderful cam by the way and is a boltin.

Well I run a TTS Mastertuner.
I used the NI176002-000 map for the base after awhile. Found it on a new update.
Then copied and pasted the pages needed from the 7H probram. These were pages and numbers that were unique to this engine.
Like "cranking fuel". Accel and Decell numbers. a few others.
VE tables also. Warm up etc, etc. With a V-tune the VE fattened in the middle and I let it run on out. I took out the PE Enrichment page to zero cause this is a raceing thing, I think, and it cause bad backfire out the pipes at 5800 shift points. too rich.
I did increase the injectors to 5.3 I think they are. Did that looking at the time in mili seconds on the data runs.
Actually liked the timing on this map and haven't done too much with it yet and I am cold natured at 67. Runs nice and clean all the way out to shift. will have to do a data run soon.
Point is there are some considerations but the cams ,7H and 400, are very similar up to a point so a lot of your tuning will cross over.
The engine is a little louder I think. I have V&H BR2-1 so it was already loud and is almost too loud for me now.
Seems snappier.
The power moved up about 250-RPMs or so. Have to putt around at 1750 RMP instead of 1550. This because the intake closing moved to 42 from 40, opened a little. I figured.
It'll still pull 6 gear from 1700RPM if you want but I only did that a time or two. Open all the way, WOT from 1700 in 6 gear and and strong pull, no bogging.
Down shift, cause of MPH, and in 3rd gear you can feel it all come on strong, then Very Strong from 3000 RPM on up. I shift at 5800 cause why not? Drops the RPMs right into the fat torque.
400-6, stock cam chain drive, seems to have it all. Needs 10.5 or higher compression. the 408 would need 11 or so to do well.
This is a 107 with the, for the pure would it work?? thing, the SE58 TB. Works fine.
Took increasing a lot of "Accell Enrichment" at lower temps and speeds. Figured that though. Big Shooters with low air flow needed.
Need to put on the new tires I have. Something wrong with the ones on now. 6K only??
