I would also add in just a few others to this list of good Porters such as

Don Tilley N.C., John Sachs Florida, R&R in New Hampshire, Zippers in MD, and Danny at Shenandoah Harley-Davidson in Staunton VA.

Depends on where you want to end up. Most of the head porting services listed will improve performance if the other parts used are compatible. My personal favorite is Tom Reiser at T-Man Performance. He does high end head work that will produce high end results when combined with cams, carb or fuel injection changes, proper exhaust, and proper ignition settings that he reccomends. Baisley is just as good but he is on the west coast and I live in the midwest so access to T-Man is better for me. The most important thing is to find a engine builder, porting specialist that has worked out combinations that work in the application you want (bagger touring torque motor, drag race high rpm, HP ect.) and stick to the reccomendations that they have proven works for you're intended use.

Default branch heads

it's not what's true 25 years ago is true today but someone doing something for 25 years is doing something right to be in business that long. also anybody doing something that long is bound to be pretty good at it.

I used S.E.Performance heads that are box stock with no work, just bolted 'em on. I am making 96/96 on my bagger and they only cost me $600! I also then sold my take off heads for $300, so in reality they cost me only $300. If you want to spend close to a grand having your heads done with the newset/hottest setup go for it, but you probelly will only make about 1 or 2 more horse than me on the street!
It's kinda like guys putting in cams...gotta be the biggest and baddest to only have bike be a pain to ride. Spend wisely and your bike will be more fun to ride and easier to fix down road if a problem arises.

boy are you way off base,on any performance build, heads should be your #1 concen.if your getting 1-2 HP,look into another head guy (even our base head work is making over a HP per CID).as far as branch/okeefe goes, they use 30 year old technology & porting idea`s that were proven any times over not to work.the most important part of finding a good porter,is not to buy "off the shelf" heads, have your heads done for YOUR build & riding style.you don't want WFO heads on a touring bike & visa-versa.

Port ID, port shape, throat diameter, valve size and shape, on both intake and exhaust, engine size, cam profile, and the intended purpose of the given powerplant are all things we consider when doing that type of work here.

There are top head guys/porters that aren't even mentioned on here (2 of them that come to mind) that have many, many world championships for Harleys that make insane N/A HP-
As said it depends what you are going to do with the bike-

Huge HP number, high dollar heads work for me and what I do with my bikes, but a street guy with conservative goals might be fine with a $3-500 street port, modest bump in comp and cam, combined with a nice, flowing exhaust wrapped up in one stout, reliable package finished off with a good tune to keep him happy for many miles ahead.

Ain't no 1 size fits all...
