Opinions needed regarding engine build up or swap in my FXSTDSE
Somebody recently backed into my 2003 Screamin Eagle Deuce. As result I have aproximately 9000 coming from the ofending vehiclesinsurance company. The adjuster rides and was very sympathetic in regards to the incident. In any event I have big plans this winter for modifications for the whole bike, most importantly the engine. I would like to have about 120hp. Most of the guys I ride with have a lot invested into their engines and it would be nice to keep up or lead for that matter. I was thinking of building up what I have but it seams I will easily spend 4500.00 or more. The bike has 2500 miles on it and was in perfect shape before the accident. The bike fell on it side and sustained only cosmetic damage. The engine is perfect and would be a solid platform to build up, but I was thinking it may be more cost effective to sell the engine on eBay and maybe buy a Jims 120ci. I have been asking mechanics in the area and I am getting so many differences in opinions. I was told by one even if I keep the bike a 95ci I should split the cases and weld the flywheels. I just want the bike to be reliable when it’s done. If I push the envelope too muchon a 95ci am I going to run into problems down the road? Are my HP figures not practical? I would hate to run into engine trouble this summer. I am in the process of closing on my first home and money is going to be tight. Major repairs won’t be in the cards if something catastrophic should happen this summer. What do you guys think? Any input is appreciated. Thanks in advance, Louis

2500 miles on an '03 bike--WOW!
An HQ 113" or 120" would get you to 120 hp, but you would lose the "cool" Screamin Eagle logos on the heads.
I'd suggest you get the cosmetics repairs done, buy the house and then consider the mods to the engine because with the hp numbers you want, you will need to change the clutch, have a stout/machined and built bottom end, etc.--not something to undertake "when money is going to be tight," IMHO.
On the other hand, you could sell the SE heads, buy some take-offs, send your heads and cylinders to HQ and do a bitchin' 95", 11.0:1 motor that is good for ~110-115 hp for under $3000 net if you do your own wrenching.
