K&N Stage 1 kit

I have read a post..on this forum.The guy said he put the K&N RK-3909 kit on a flow bench, after he installed the stock air cleaner cover, The air flowto the filter went way down...is this possible? has anyone noticed a difference in performanceafter installing the cover?
