raise compression with pistons or heads
i have a 06 rk,fi,wild pig pipes,se air cleaner, and 211 cams.needs compression with either pistons or early set of se heads that i have.would you use the se big bore high compression pistons or use flat top pistons and use the se heads?looking for more torque so i didnt know if the heads would hurt the torque as compared to using the stock heads to get the compression up.i know should have probably used the 204 cams but i had the 211 .

Well first off the heads need to be pulled clean the combustion chambers up and have them correctly measured. Then for the amount of compression you will need a dome piston would be the best method as you can use it and a thinner head gasket. I try to mill heads as little as possiable as that leaves room for more owrk later if the customer decides to go bigger. If you run some basic numbers and it is a crap shoot as I have only a idea on what we see with 400 plus heads a year but i can start with a cc volume of 87 ( a number we se very often) and then factor in a .030 head gasket and then work on a piston dome volume. Ok here goes
87 cc chamber head
.030 head gasket
3.875 bore
add a 6 cc dome piston
you will get 9.8
CCP would be 182
Now I would still mill the heads some on that to raise it just a bit more to drop the cc to 85 and that would give you 10.1 and with the 211 it would turn on much better and faster.
P.S. dont waste your money on the SE cast piston, more trouble than they are worth.

RE: raise compression with pistons or heads
Since you all ready have the SE heads ( Assume the Preformance) why not use them with 95 flatops giving right at 10:1 depending on actual cc of heads and deck. The SE heads call for 76cc but most that have actually checked them say closer to 78cc. There have been alot of us over at HTT that have done the build I have listed and used the 211 when run out was to much for gears. You would end up with a build that pushes double 100's with proper tune. Better yet send the SE off to Steve and let him clean them up and match cc them.

I missed that he had a set of SE heads. DUHH I would cc them as well then go from there. The SE head can be anywhere from 78-80cc. Most are closer to 80 but Ihad a set some time ago that we did where one head was 77.8 and the other was 80 so we had to bring one down to 77.8 . The head will work very well. I would ahve them gone through to ensure valves are sealing, seals are good and the spring pack is up to par in fact i would toss the stock springs as they are good for 575 lift and if you replace them with a set of new springs you could use crane and the spring pack would be a double spring and good for 620. Gives you some room later if you find a cam with more lift. The stock spring is a good unit just has very little lift. The biggest issue is not so much the spring but retainer to seal clearance.
