Default Excessive fuel from overflow tube

Hello. I just got my first bike about a month ago; it's an 89 1200c sporty and it has been leaking fuel from the overflow tube in large amounts. It usually does it when I am not riding. Most I have noticed that it leaks when it is just sitting and I am not riding it. Anyone have any ideas or what I can do to fix this?

turn off the petcock when not riding it. Make sure your float level is set right and the float valve is not sticking.
