Default Im thinking stock exauhst

My wife says the bike hurts her ears over a longer ride she stated about ear plugs, this does not suit me. I am thinking of going back to stock and taking the 2"Rush exauhst off. I already tried V&H and there to loud for both ofus. I have true duals installed. And no I'm not to old, Plain and simpleI have been their anddone that. and ifI want more noiseI can stand in the middle of my home with three young girls of my own. It is all about function for me. I am curious about performance loss. Has any one regressed to this thinking also? And what is your thought on this?

Tlurban I went thru same dilemma. I have a '07 FLHX which I purchased in July. I had V&H Oval's and were too loud, especially for my wife. I rode for 2 months with stock pipes, which I feel were descent, especially for stockers, just did not like the looks of them. Last week I put on Screamin' Eagle one piece performance mufflers slash out part #80490-07. I like them a lot, a little louder than stock, a lot deeper, performance seems to be a tad better as well. I think you may like them.

Ihave Rush on my FLHT and switched from 2 inch to 1 1/2 baffles. cost me about 60. but I'm happy, still has a bit of growl, but very pleasant to ride.

I'm right where you are. have 103 and put D&D quiet. For me, it may be quieter, but it isn't quiet. I may try the screamin eagle mentioned above, but I don't want loud on the bagger.

I have tried a bunch of different pipes looking for quiet (bad ears) and performance. Here in ascending order of loudness are the pipes I have triedon a scale of 1-10 with 1 being the quietest:

'07 CVO Ultra take-offs(66080-06A) (1.0) too much back pressure - hurt performance
'08 Ultra stock mufflers(1.5) stock mufflers
SE street perf mufflers (64985-07)2 piece (2.5) helped perf.- good low-end TQ
SE street perfmufflers (80491-07) 1 piece (3.0)helped perf.- good low-end TQ
SEII mufflers '06 version(6.0) helped perf. - better HP over 4000 RPM

Nice job TN,I'm picking up a set of the 80491-07's tomorrow to replace the 64985-07's I have on my 08 ultra currently, the 64985's don't sound to bad and give a nice shot in the *** but the 80491's have a little bit better Harley sound from what I have heard on others bikes.

You will hear a difference with the 80491-07s, Copperjohn. I had them on my old '06 Ultra with a 95" build and they had a little too much drone for me. The same mufflers on my '08 Ultra with a stage 1 setup (SEAC, 80491-07s and a stage 1 download)sounded much better. They had a nice low pitched sound but a little more bark above 3000 RPM. They also gradually get a little louder over time but never annoying. If youdo a Google search on TNT Performance in Nashville, you will see a 2007 Harley's dyno result with a PCIII and the 80491-07 mufflers. The '07owner tried Rush, V&H and the SE mufflers and kept coming back to the SE80491-07s because they dyno'ed out the best of the three. I spoke to the owner and got that info from him.

Try the Supertrapp SE's. They claim only 3db louder than stock but with all the permance gains.

I agree w/ [copperjohn]&[whoop72] thanks for the info however I am buying a Tmax for the bike, I'm not to sureI will be looking at new pipes which is why Iwrite of going back to stock exhaust. Which brings up a new question for me (it maybe to deep in the site to get a response but I'll try it). Has anyone tried 1.5 baffles forRush exh.($60.00) and comparing them to SE street performancemufflers (80491-07; $360.00)one piece or the likes, for sound and performance (soundbeing more important)?
