Default Heads after a 103 buildup

I'm taking in my 08 Ultraclassic on Friday for the 103 upgrade, which includes the 255 cams. I will be using SE II slip-ons.Later this winter I am thinking of adding heads. What would be my best choice of Screaming Eagle heads? I wish to keep my original heads original. Are there any other recommended heads? I am looking for max torque in the 2000-4000 RPM range.Any and all advice would be appreciated.

leave your heads alone and use a different cam.
like the HQ TC 500 or Woods. TW6

I highly recomend working OE heads over bolt-on SE heads.
but its your bike. Get a couple of local recomendations and go from there.

Here'sa nice comparison between the 255's & HQ-500's. http://www.head-quarters-usa.com/casestudy2.html

If you wanna keep "yours" stock, but want better heads, buy a set of pull-off on ebay and send them out to someone like Head-Quarters.

The results from properlyre-worked stock heads are better than S/E heads everytime.

I was thinking about doing the same thing except I have already done the 103 stage 2 kit with the 255 cams,SERT and Fat Cats. I didn't know what would be more beneficial the heads worked on or a different cam. After seeing the comparisonbetween the HQ 500 and 255 I am hesitant on the cam now doesn't seem much different than my current setup, my dyno chart is almost identical to the one on the site. PhilM, what kind of gains do you think we would see with the heads done to our engines? Also is there a cam that would work better for me? An lastly not to hijack his thread would you mind looking at my dyno chart and see if you think anything is off? I figured I would get more than 86/104 but it runs great, pulls hard, and seems much cooler but if I could get some more power it would be great. Maybe I'll just change the sprocket to 30 tooth. All you guys getting the front end off the ground are making me jealous. Thanks for any input.

That graph looks to me like your running out of air and that's what is killing your hp.We like the reworked stock heads over the SE's because we now fix a lot of SE's for people who were dissapointed with them. Say with the straight cnc ported heads we see 115-118 torque and hp with torque very linear to straight line and when we weld and cnc port we see slightly higher #'s but revs 2-4 seconds quicker.

Lots of good info in this thread.
Looks like a SE255 on a 103" and a set of ported heads would make a stump puller!

My builder will get another 8 - 10 hp out of SE heads vs. stock after hand-porting every time. S&S heads too, but that would be overkill for my build.

My dealer contacted the Motor Company and was told that the Scream Eagle 103 heads in the catalog do not fit the '08 Touring models. They were also told that there is no date for when any SE heads other than the 110's would be available for the'08 Touring bikes. Iam waiting for delivery of an '08 Road King and will also be doing the 103 kit with SE255 cams but after reading threads on this site I may opt for the HQ or Woods.Don't know if I can get the port and polish done right away or may have to wait.

Kingofcubes thanks! What would you recommend? A different tuner? Dealer did this one and honestly I don't know who in So Cal to go to. If I sent my heads to you what kind of lead time and what if anythingelse would be needed? Think the 255 cam is ok?

Thanks again.

What year is your bike, I have many sets already done sitting on the shelf for guys who don't want any down time and are willing to core their heads out, the good dyno tuners are far and few between but if you ask around in your area you will get a feel for who they are. If you want your heads back, it will be 3 weeks. I would much prefer that you used one of the R&R cams with these heads.Hope this helps.
