Thinking of making my own exhaust.

Thinking of making my own exhaust.
First of all I know that there are numerous company's that make exhaust but I'm findind a hard time locating what I consider great sounding and good performance and I sort of want to try this Idea that I have, I think I will start with 1 3/4 pipe's and run until the secret crossover then 2" from there back. Do you think it's worth it or should I just by what's out there. Oh yea I have a killer idea for the heat sheild's, or at least I think so. It might be worth a shot, who knows.

RE: Thinking of making my own exhaust.
I made a set of pipes, drag pipes, for my '04 Fatboy. They looked cool and the sound was LOUD. But performance wasn't good. So I removed them and never got them chromed. Now they hang on the wall in the garage. I will probably use them for a run around here or something. I used exhaust pipe from the local muffler shop. It was cheap and they were helpful in bending it where I needed. If they worked out then I was going to have them chromed at the local plating shop. Good luck with your project.

Go for it, as long as you understand the dynamics of exhaust. You have to have the correct length and volume of cooling in order to ensure valve life. If you are building a daily rider, rather than a race bike that get's rebuilt every couple of weeks, you have to make sure that you get it right. Straight pipes sound great, but they reduce horsepower and kill engines. Do the research before you strap them on.
