Default carbuerator theory issue

Good news/Bad news. The good - I have a friend that found a deal of a life time. The Bad - it’s a gold wing. Ok maybe not that bad of news.

I am trying to help him rebuild it(long story) & we are stuck. Here is the issue:

Why does the Gold Wing engine only run on full choke now, zero throttle. And yes we have completely cleaned out the carbs, jets, bowls, floats, valves, and fuel system. 4 cyl, 4 carbs. It’s a Porche-Subaru type boxer layout with the throttle " butterfly valves" last-in-line, i.e., between the carbs and the engine intake valves. I don’t really know what all happens inside there. These carbs have 3 jets each...lots of parts.

Best thing to do is to go to a Goldwing message board.

The old 4 cylinder Goldwings are pretty cool! Good info. up above. There are forums with guys that are FANATICAL about them!!!! I know a guy who rides an old GL1000 that looks like it sat in a heated garage for 30+ years. Darn thing looks like new!!!![&:]

Sorry for the long delay. End of year & beginning of year is the busiest time for me. He is what he has done so far.

Had to buy a fuel pump and all 4 throttle slides. The soft rubber diaphragms in the slide assy’s did not survive the storage, and the pump was working only when he would help push fuel thru it with a turkey baster. His only problem is CASH FLOW. The brake parts he needs plus the above will be about 800 bucks. The slides alone are 90 bucks each. Kehin is very proud of their carb parts.
Still, if this is all I have to spend on this bike, it will be a lot les than I anticipated, and still an incredible bit of luck.

This is something of a déjÃ* vu thing actually, as he had a problem with one of the same parts on my Sabre, which now has 37,000 miles on it.

Thanks for your time & all your help.
