Default Andrews cams 26g or 37g?

Got a 2003 dyna, stock 88 with a carb. I understand the whole gear drive set-up it makes sense. I will be 2 up riding sometimes, but mostly just me, but want more low to mid power. Looks like both of these cams will do the job, so what the difference? Will one require additional up-grades to air/carb/exhaust than the other. I bought the bike used with 3k on it, w/ S/E 2 slip on's. While I understand to maximize the full potential of a cam up-grade requires additional up-grades, it's just how much? I'm not looking to get into any headwork but I will probably go up to a 95" with heads eventually so if these cams would work with it, it would be a bonus. Thanks for taking the time to help me out.

Mark

The 26 cams are more for baggers, the 37s would be alittle better and respond to head work.

I have a 95 in on my 05dyna and have cams a little bigger than the 37s. With head porting and some carb tunning it is very strong in all rpm ranges.

CK out Head-Quarters site on there cams and kits, they are more powerful than the Andrews in all RPM ranges.

If you do not all ready have it I would do something with the intake 1st. Unless you have the ability to get extra air in AND out a cam is not going to do much. I pulled a set of 26 chains out of a Heratage last month and put a set of 31 chains in it. The Heratage has 95 and worked heads. The 26's we put in an Ultra w/pipes, Fuel packand intake. You could tellhe was not super impressed. They added a little but a cam with out head work just doesn't do what a lot of people think it should do. He hasn't dynoed it so can't give hard numbers. The Heratage 93 torque 83 horse. If you plan to do more as you indicate I think I would leave the 26 alone and look at the 37 especially with your light bike. I would give serious consideration to just adding the intake and then waiting till I had the money/time to do heads/bb/cams all at once getting a system that works with each other toward the best possable out come (high torque and hp #)reather than piecing togeather a group of parts that will work togeather but not live up to there individual potential. The build I have listed in my sig. would be a good choice for a light bike like yours in the future but do not even think about 570 with out headwork. Will fall flat on face with out compression.

I would skip both of them and go for the Head Quarters HQ-0034G bolt-in cam.

I started with the 26G's in my build, but found them to die off too quickly and have no top-end power. So I yanked them out and replaced them with the HQ-0034G cams and am very happy with them. They have more bottom end power, more mid-range power, and more top-end power............they are just a better cam all around.

I was looking at the 37 myself. I have been told that lifters and push rods could need to be replaced. I will now start looking at the HQ-0034G. They sound like what I have been looking for.

Wow thanks guys I'm new to this forum and this gives me the info I was looking for. On the intake upgrade, is that just the air cleaner like a k/n filter? or is there more to it then just that? Thanks Mark

If you are going to trouble of cams don't cheap out on the intake. I think K&N make a filter that replaces the stock one but you really need to get the SE intake kit or one of the clones. It comes with a new backing plate and a K&N filter sometimes (HD swaps back and forth between K&N and a cheap made version threw the years . I think they are on the cheap version now but you can call K&N and get a replacement if the one in the SE kit goes bad.) part # 29440-99C from my SE catalog 2005. HD may have done an update since then but that will tell them what you need. https://www.zanottimotor.com/shopping/partLookUp.html Hear is a link to Zanotti HD most things at least 20% off and a lot more than that. Excellant costomer service. Tim and the guys there are great.

I would go with the 37 if I was planning on more up grades in the future, if there was a third choice I would go with the new RR525 bolt in cam. Great linear power, great torque cam.
