Exhaust choice for Twin cam 107" build
#11
Supertrapp all day.
I installed the Supertrapp Supermeg last Spring on my FXDX. Absolutely love this exhaust. Mine came with 20 discs and closed end cap. I tried 10 discs with their Competition End Cap. Noticeably louder and about the same performance as the quieter 20 discs/closed. Fantastic performance. I'm sure getting it on a dyno will get me to where I know exactly how many discs I should run but I am very happy with the included 20.
I put the 20 discs closed back on. I love how it is quiet at idle and cruising but it sounds like what a performance Harley should when you get on it. I commute to work. I leave the house at 0530... I don't wanna be *that* jackass in the neighborhood. Supertrapp fits the bill!
Very happy with the fit and finish too. I run a Thunderheader on my Shovelhead and considered one for the FXDX. Thunderheader performance is good but the quality/fitment/coating leaves a lot to be desired unfortunately.... they are notorious for cracking on the rubber mount bikes, they hang low and drag on corners.....and it is loud.... but I like my Shovelhead loud.

Open end cap made by Supertrapp themselves. It is said to act roughly as 10 discs. So if you are running 20 discs with a closed end cap but want to run their open competition end cap you would run the open cap with 10 discs for roughly the same performance as with the 20 discs closed (but now it is louder). Even with the open end cap it is no where near as loud as a Thunderheader.
Exhaust sounds great either way but I wanted it as quiet as can be so I am sticking with the closed cap. Once the summer hits and it is no longer dark during my commute I may put the open cap back on. Something about starting the bike up when it is pitch black I like it quiet as can be haha.

This was my 2007 fatboy that I put an s&s 107 kit into with 10.5 comp, s&s 585 cams, heavy breather and supermeg exhaust with 24 discs and open end cap. No headwork. Needed a stronger clutch spring. Cant remember the dyno numbers but a heap of torque around 3,000 rpm where I wanted it and it kept climbing to the limiter I’ve had supermeg on tourers and dynas too as good performance and not obnoxiously loud although with a higher comp engine and open end cap, it’s loud when the on the throttle

If you get 5 minutes any chance of a direct side on view to see where the end of the pipe sits over the rear wheel?
Thanks
