'03 RK HEad pipes black w/slip ons
I have an '03 Road King Police with a stock motor, Screaming Eagle Air cleaner upgrade and I believe the Stage 1 base map. I put some SE Touring Mufflers and it ran ok but seemed to run hot. A friend gave me a set of Hooker Tuned Flow mufflers. I put those on with the tuning set to H. The bike ran great with a little popping on decel. We made a run to the Washington Coast from Seattle. Got rained on the whole way back. About 3/4 of the way home we stopped to eat and I noticed the header pipes were grayish black. I could see it through the heat shield gap that Harley left by the floorboard. The black does not rub off so its no soot from an exhaust leak. The bike has 32000 miles on it. I never really paid attention to the pipe so I am not positive what it looked like before. The bike runs super strong and seems to be cooler around the engine even after idling in traffic. Any thoughts from you all?

If the bike is running good with no problems i would not be concerned. It is not unusual for pipes to be discolored even that far down. So do not be concerned. I would make a suggestion to purchase a Power Commander or Race Tuner because you can really dial one in. Plus you can get rid of the backfire on decel.

I have purchased a PCIII USB and also found out from the dealer that my bike had a stage 1 download as well. I loaded the map for STage 1, SE A/C and Hooker Tuned Flow with left set to torque and right set to horsepower. The map took successfully. Starts and runs out nice...very slight pop on decel at 2000-2500. What steps would you suggest to tune that out?
