HD stock headers use what is called scavenging Designed to give you as much or the best between 2-1 and 2-2 exhaust .
The stock headers even work pretty dam good in a stage 2 with CAT in.

Wide open free flow exhaust is an advantage only on the very end.
The have been pushing the True dual crap a long time it sounds cool to stay there for it sells.

HD does get some things right and the Scavenging exhaust is one of them. The Good aftermarket 2-1-2 headers are really just a refined and improved version of it. More cash is wasted on wrong exhaust system than anything else.

The rules change a bit when other factors come into it. If you are trying to get every last bit of Torque and HD in a range you are looking for Exhaust matched to CAM in take and Tune will become the deal maker. But at a high cost for faction of gai some times.

Read many of the exhust post on how are getting the latest internet hype system that is loud and or has the numbing bass tone they end up and different baffles and cones trying to get the power back.
Thanks, yeah I know back pressure's a bad term but it just seems to be what most people say when talking about it

So when I hear these really loud bikes have people sacrificed performance just to get them loud then? I don't want crazy loud, just want a bit louder than I have. I think I'll go stage II when I can afford it and then take it from there. I might just look at new slip ons if it's still not how I want, such as the TAB bam sticks with zombie baffles.

I do like the look of the dresser duals, but not if it's at a power/torque cost. I should quiz V&H again as I asked them about torque reduction with their pipes and I thought they'd said no, however they've been quite 'clever' in their response. They say the power duals are a 2-1-2 and increase power (no mention of torque), and with regards to the dresser duals they just say "perform much better:

V&H is tricky. The make some great track pipes. But the public does not get the exact same pipe pipes.
The pipes they made for the 750 street flat tracker for Hd race team did great but the public did not get them.

Smitty901 has you on the right path, a cam will definitely change the tone & volume of the exhaust.

I dissagree with Smitty, not an opinion, i did testing and dyno testing to prove. back to back testing on the same bike, 2022 FLTRx with factory 117 engine, much louder with different than stock head pipe vs factory head pipe with cat. w/ the same muffles installed each test and tested with no mufflers installed.
you will not get as good preformance from VH dresser duals as you will from the Full Sac header, again tested on my dyno at my shop.
Everything else that Smitty said stands....
All the duals give up power and torque in the low and mid,,,,,with the exception being on some very rare engine combinatios that are not the norm.
buy the Full Sac, you wont be dissappointed.

Thanks for the info, I’ve never heard of full sac so will do some reading. In regards to the dresser duals are your referring to the older ones or the new PCX ones that have come out this year (I believe)?
