The front heat shield on my 2012 Limited came loose because the tab came off. Anybody replace the heat shield and know what you have to do to do it?

If you still have the tab, just get it tig welded back on.

 

If you don't get it welded up, lots of guys here probably have spares in the garage. Its just that welding it up, may show on the good side.

I haven’t been able to find a decent used one, I’m willing to buy a new one. I was just wondering if anyone has done this and could tell me how to do it.

My mechanic gave me an estimate, and mentioned he would have to take off the floorboard, so I assume that’s part of the process.

 

1. remove floorboard
2. unscrew the hose clamps
Takes about 10 minutes

 

on my 2015 Ultra Limited, had 3 tabs broken, on completely broken off, tig welded them back on, no heat discoloration on the outside.

 

My friend welded my tab back together, his only concern was heat maybe affecting the other side and dis color never happened, all it cost me was a fish fry lunch!

 

Put a wet towel on the chrome side and weld it

Thanks, but I have a 2012. My dealer called me today and I was going to order a new heat shield for $259 but I was walking my dog so I said I would call him later. I had sent an email to Archway International Motorcycle Salvage asking them for a picture of their used heat shield and I got it later today, so I bought that for only $80.
