Default Shell Premium Gas

I bought some shell gas for my 2004 Roadkinga couple of weeks ago and after a few miles it started spitting and sputtering and backfiring on deceleration. I went ahead and ran all of the gas out and filled up with Bp and the problem disappeared. Today I had to have gas and filled up with Shell at a different location and the same thing started happening after about 40 miles. Has anyone else had problems with poor performance with Shell super. Also do you think it might do any engine damage? Thanks for any info

First off, Welcome aboard... Please take a moment and post an intro in the NEW MEMBERS SECTION.....

It's more than likely the refinery, fuel tanks in the ground that are contaminated, filters on the pumps, or just plain old Stale fuel from sitting so long.....

With the price of Premium over $3/Gal, how many people are actually buying it????

It sits in the tanks for a LONG time, and gets stale, hydrocarbons dissipate and fuel literally loses it's spark....

I've had good luck with Shell. Think I might even get better mileage with it.

I used to run Shell all the time, but the last time I used it, I had pinging issues on the bike. My bike was tuned with a SERT and dyno too... I ran that tank out and filled up with Sunoco 94 and no problem. Have used BP premium no problem either... SO I dont know. I do know Shells around here are being changed to Circle K's so maybe the gas changed too????? Dont know. Seriously thinking of BP all the time now...

did you see a gas truck leaving? if you did when they fill the tanks it stirs all the stuff up. for a car no big deal. for a bike big deal

When I lived on the east coast, I never bough Shell gas. You learned pretty quickly that Shell is about the worst. Now I live in CO, and buy Shell all the time without any problems. It's a regional thing.

I have had good luck with Chevron and when I have the occassion to use Shell, I don't see perormance or mileage difference. It just might be a regional thing. By the time we get fuel up to the Northwest ( Washington State ), it's usually past its shelf life anyway.

Hmm, interesting....I filled up on high test last Sunday....bike seemed to run fine.....used about half a tank.....The next day when I went out it started to backfire, and when I took my hand off the throttle, it backfired out the pipes.......I thought I was on the only one with the prob.......I didn't use Shell that time, just the local country store. I then filled up on Shell Premium, and it had the same problem. I think I'll try regular the next time. I live in the Northeast and Irving's usually fills all the local stations, like Shell, and such.....and then Shell just puts in their additive. Anyone have good luck with a particular gas up in this neck of the woods???
