I live outside of LA, and I have had nothing but problems with Shell gas! my musclecars hate it, my turbo cars cant make any boost with it, and my 05 Dyna was stock and did the same stuff your describing!, Im not even going to chance putting in my bike with the Head-Quarters BB kit I have now!

I use Mobile first then Cheveron. I can make fuel at home better that the crap Shell sells!

I have used Shell premium (91 octane) routinely from sea level to 10.000' in the Sierras, bike stripped or fully loaded...and I have never had any issues yet like those that are being described here. Big city station, little country station, it has always worked for me.

When I purchased my 07 Custom the dealer specifically advised me not to use Shell Optimax as they had experienced problems with other bikes when running this fuel - however, he did not say what those problems had been. I was advised to use BP 98 Octane and have not had any problems.

I ran Shell Optimax in my car for many years and found it fixed a persistent pinging issue it had, had better power and consumption when compared to standard unleaded. I found the extra cost to be worthwhile insurance vis a visthe cost of rebuilding an engine due to detonation damage. I occassionally still use this fuel in my new car although it has no pinging issues to help clean injectors etc.

My 2 cents.

98 oct, where do you get that at? super blue (110oct) is $5.69 here and mix close to 60-40 to 70-30 with the small town store gas.

I have used Shell 93 all but once when I had to buy gas at a Chevron.I would buy the Chevron/Texaco gas if I had to, but I swear by Shell 93.

this fellow asked if there could be a potential problem with the engine after having put the gas inside it, not for an opinion on shell gasoline. I too put gas in a few days ago and nowthe bike is barely running. I'm hoping that it won't cause damage to the engine. I give it throttle, it revs but no pick up, it stalls at lights unless I'm giving it throttle, and the engine just generally hesitates. This is ususally the case after it has been running for afew minutes. If some of you wrenches can offer a educated guess as to whats going on I would really appreciate it. The weather the last few days in AZ have been great for riding! its just plain torture watching the bike sit in the garage untill I have time to take it to the shop. [:@]

I have a bud who used to deliver gas, Other than Sunoco, All the othergas stations bought from who ever was the cheapest. He said he deliverered the same gas to say BP, shell you name it. Maybe this just happens in my neck of the woods.

I've been having intermittent missing, sputtering, etc. Comes and goes. Stopped using Shell per recommend from HD tech here in LA area. It's running better but probably a coincidence. Have thrown a "throttle position sensor" code twice now though, but no symptoms. I was usingShell almost exclusivley because it is a popular station and they say that's better for "fresher" gas. Now I'm using another popular station, Chevron; and so far so good, but still not convinced it was the Shell gas.
