Default Exhaust mod only...

I can't seem to find answers to my question in a search. I have an '07 Softail completely stock. Can I change the pipes to V&H short shots and get away with the dealer flash map or willI need the PCIII or SERT ? Thank you.

Changing one end of the pump (engine) has no effect on mixture or performance!

Welcom aboard Michele! I just installed those same pipes on my bike and they are awesome. You won't regret it. I also added the Arlen Ness big sucker and a pcIII to go along with it. I would suggest doing the whole package in one shot. Your bike will thank you for it and it will run like a big dog.

You will want to open her up (air filter wise). If you do both air filter and performance pipes you will see a big increase in performance.

Only adding pipesmay not requireany change to the fuel map. However, if you're going to have the dealer flash the ECM anyway, I wouldadd the SE or Ness air filter as well. It really does make a big difference (10 - 15 hp). If you're not planning on making any changes in the future, you'll be okay with just the dealer flash. If you think you might change something else somewhere down the road, you may as well get a PC3 or SERT now.

I am curious too. I have the opportunity to buy some short shot staggerds anddon't have the coin for fuel management system or A/C right now. I hate to pass this up but I don't want to damage my new '07 train. Can it be done with just the pipes for a little while?

No, you will NOT need a PCIII or SERT or anything else like those listed. Install the pipes with the HD download (dealer flash). But I would recommend that you have a High Performance air cleaner assembly installed also.

I response to rockerhead. Changing one end of the pump does change things, it may just not be enough to do damage, but rest assured it does change. Each bike is a unique pump, if I can borrow that metaphor. Each bike will respond differently to each change. If you make the exhaust change, do several plug checks to be sure you are not too lean. It is easy to do and much cheaper than the damage that might occur. If you get very much leaner that OEM, then expect some pinging on moderate to heavy acceleration or two up riding ukp hill. The new bikes are running so lean, it may just be enough to put you over the edge.

This exhaust only upgrade sounds scary. I don't want to screw up my new bike. Decisions decisions.
