Default SE Air Kit Filter vs K&N Filter

Quick questions:

Is the air filter in the SE air kit a K&N filter?

If not, if later I change to a K&N filter will the change be enough to require a new dyno?? hope not [:@]

Thanks !

S/E filter used to be a K&N but the last 3 to 4 years Harley has made their own filter. If you change from a Harley filter to a K&N you won't have to dyno tune again....there isn't that much difference. The difference is in the quality.....guess which one is built better..!

When I bought mine I convinced the dealer to give me the S.E.mounting plate(which is a better set up in my oppinion)and the K&N filter, they re-imbursed me the difference in price. I was told by the dealer in question that he has seen the S.E.filters fall apart in 5000 miles, dont know how true that is???

Fall apart in 5,000 miles? Try about 100 miles. I had a SE A/C kit installed when I bought my bike and after riding it home and a few trips around town, the filter was already falling apart.

the SE filter is JUNK, use the K&N better filter.

I have the 2001 SE filter. It's great! The element is the K&N. If I need to buy it again, I'd buy the SE filter but with the K&N element, as it used to be and should be now. BTW, the BC Gerolomy Overflow filter works great too, but is not as compact off the side of the engine. Here is a shot of the Overflow installed:
