Does 2 into 1 run cooler ?
2007 Ultraglide
I've seen the question asked but I could not find where it had been answered. I dont want to loose any torque (duals) But the heat is not comfy for my wife and the pinging scares me.

RE: Does 2 into 1 run cooler ?
As far as actual engine heat is concerned, the engine build and tune will dictate the amount of heat the engine puts through the pipes, I have a Fatcat 2 into 1 on my 07 Ultra, the engine creates more heat than the 05 I traded in that had the stock crossover pipe but the 07 with the Fatcat actually feels cooler to the rider due to the way the pipe runs along the bike, I still think they could have got the rear pipe in a half inch or so though. And BTW, the 2 into 1 will increase torque in the areas you drive the bike in the most over a "true dual " exhaust system.

I just switched from true duals to the supertrapp 2-1 and heat from the rear pipe is no concern,I was thinking of the fatcat but I like the placement of the rear pipe better with the supertrapp. If you want the bike to run cooler you need to add more fuel with something other then the stock ecm. Also I removed the lowers until the cooler weather sets in.

I think the heat issue has mostly to do with the way the bikes are tuned, especially 2007. They run hot because of EPA requirements. Changing the pipes and more importantly re-mapping or tuning theECM (re-map, flash, controller, etc)will lower the temps significantly buy not letting the engine run so lean.
