The factory improved the heads slightly but didn't go far enough when you consider that they are lucky to get 1 torque and hp per cube and the bikes still run horribly hot. The best thing you can do for these bikes is head work (we cnc port them) and cam. Piston squish should also be set. We get 1.1 torque and hp per cube with our stage 2-1/2 and with the stage 4 the bike will rev 2-4 seconds quicker. We reduce the engine temp by 20-50 degrees. Add a cam plate/ cam cover to that and you are 8-10 degrees cooler with no wet sumping.

The 06 dyna and a 96 inch may look the same but they are not. The cams are completely different the head pipes on the 07 are much more restrictive. We put a set of our CNC heads on a 96 inch with a 204 cam set compression to 9.8 it had a set of SE slip ons and a SE a/c it made 97-98 hp and 108 tq.

Now if he had used a better cam like the 37 and a better pipe he would have made 104-106 hp and tq would have been in the 108-114 range. We have been doing alot of 96 inch work. Most will bump it to a 107 as you are there. Cost wise not too much more.
