I just bought a 2001 FLHCTUI and it seems to be running very hot!@ I haven't owned a bike for years and just got back into it. I remember Harleys running warm, but not hot enought to burn my leg if I am not careful. I notice a definite spark knock at times and the idle fluctuates betwqeen 1200 & 2000 rpms when motor is hot.
Any thhoughts on the matter? The local Harley dealer said there is are issues with early FI models.

Is the bike completely stock? If not it needes to have a PowerCommander installed and tuned to get you more fuel wher it's needed.

 

As far as I know, it is. Just bought it 5 weeks ago used at a HD dealer. I found a receipt when he had the big bore kit put in at a HD dealer two years ago or so.
Is this something I can fix on my own? Maybe it is running lean also? Lots of spark knock when I accelerate. Just think it should not run THAT hot
Bought extended warranty for twelve months from HD dealer also. If it is something usual for early EFI systems, maybe covered??

If you suspect knock, don't ride it. If you've got a warranty on it, trailer it to the dealer and get it ckecked. If it's got a big bore kit, chances are it has a high-flow air filter too.
