s&s e shovel poping at cruise speeds???
I am running a super e on my 76 glide and it seems around 55-60 mph i get a pop noise like a misfire If i go slower or fater it runs fine. I plan to get into the carb the next few days, anyone have any direction for me?? I will post the jet size when I see it. half the guys I ride with tell e its in the main and other half say intemediate . Got to fix it it gets anoying. Other than that the bike rund very good just at that speed kinda sucks!. thanks for any advice

The S&S carb has a overlap of both jets fueling at the same time....the main jet comes into play around 3000 rpm and the intermediate fuels up to 3500rpm so as you can see there is an overlap of fuel and it makes it VERY difficult to tune. It can be done and the carb can be modified to get rid of the over lap but its a lot of work and you need dyno time to see how big of a bleed jet you need.
Usually when a bike spits out the carb it is a sign of a lean mixture.....however we know the S&S has that rich spot in it so I'd check my timing of the engine and if your still running points in your bike make sure the point gap is with-in .005 from the front cylinder to the rear cylinder. If the gap exceeds the .005 it will cause this miss fire ever so often.
Good Luck

Try advancing or retarding the rear cylinder by 4 degrees on your ignition trim pots. After you get it timed advance the rear cylinder first and go for a ride, if it still does it then retard the rear cylinder timing and try cruising again....if it still does it it has to be in the carb.

Do you have anything pulling a vaccum off the carb? If that hose has a leak - that can cause some popping. My dad's bike had a leak that only happened when the hose was flexed... so whenever he hit some bumps - the suspension would flex some - it would stumble. Just a rabbit to chase....
