Of the 4 softails between my Dad and me, three of them are running Fat Cats, we really like and believe in their pipes. My point (and what I should have said) was the tuners I know all prefer the louvered to the perforated baffles for making torque. According to the D&D site I should be using a Boarzilla on my 117" softail build. After speaking with D&D and tuners in my area we determined since I was not chasing peak numbers and wanted to keep as much power to the left side of the graph as possible the best choice was the regular Fat Cat (with perf baffle) over the Zilla. I am curious what swapping mufflers to a louvered baffle would do to my curve and numbers though!
Based on my experience (I currently run a wrapped, perforated baffle) I'd say it's possible for the louvered baffle to work on something bigger than 103 but the cams (IMO) would have to make power on the low end to be in line with the baffle (see post 6). Having cams and a build that made power higher up in the rev range would be hobbled by the exhaust (IMO).

Having run them both I can say that there just isn't enough difference in sound to give up any performance, again (IMO). I've also used a baffle that D&D doesn't make anymore, it was a louvered, wrapped baffle with a pipe welded inside that blocked flow. It was significantly quieter but it was a turd in terms of performance.

Being a Texan, I can't see how you'd run anything BUT a D&D.

Kinda a rule of thumb for baggers:
* Totally freeflowing exhaust = best peak power numbers (usually above 5000rpm) with an accompanying loss in bottom end torque.
* Properly designed 2into1 exhaust (long primaries) = best below 3000 rpm torque.

Wonder who would win a bagger race from light to light....120hp@6500/100tq@3500 or 100hp@5500/120tq@2500?
