Default serious probem with 2007 96 cube engine

My friend recently purchased a 2007 Street Glide. I accompanied him to the dealership as he picked up the bike (his first motorcycle). He left the dealership and started the 25 mile ride back to his house but he only made it about 20 milesbefore engine oil started pouring out of the back side of the breather and onto the engine, trans, and the entire bike. When he noticed the smoke coming from his engine he pulled over and shut it off and the oil continued to belch out of the breather for a couple more minutes (approximately 1 qt poured out onto the engine and then onto the ground. We brought it back to the dealership the next day in the back of my truck and informed the service manager what had happened. He was quite surprised and when he contacted HD factory they informed him that it was most likely a machining problem on the assembly line and that one or more of the oil ports had been machined inproperly. They sent two new engine cases to the dealership and instructed them to completely disassemble the engine and reassemble it with the new cases installed. Currently its still at the dealership awaiting reassemble. Needless to say, my friend is very disappointed withhis new Street Glige and probable wishes that he hadnt bought it (his wife has offered some much more colorful words of her own but I cant repeat them here).
Has anyone else experienced or heard of this problem?

Jeff,

I'm not sure what you mean by "strike build"?

His is a brand new 2007. it now has a total of 27 miles shown on the odometer.

Oh...now I understand.

I dont know when it was built (before or after thefactory strike).

In any case I have a hard time believing that HD has neverseen this probelem before with their new engines although I havent heard anything about it before.

I would have demanded a new bike, or my money back. It wouldn't even be up for debate.

Ouch...hope those mechanics at the dealer know what they're doing. Might be a good idea to sell it when there's still some warranty on it.

I agree that he should have received a new engine if not a new motorcycle but apparently this particular dealership (as well as HD) feel theyhave this kid over a barrel because he financedthe bike through HD. The sales rep at this dealership has already made the statement "it's his bike now...he owns it".
Needlesss to say...as a long time Harley owner and rider I am extremely disappointed at the manner in which this guy is being treatedbyHD withtheir "cheapest possible" solution to this issue. I suspect that this is not the first time this problem has occurredand I doubt that HD is anxious to report these and other problems with their manfacturing processes.
I expect more to come on this issue and certainly welcome any feedback from other HD owners.

Tell him to call HD MoCo directly. Then if that does not work tell him to contact an attorney to draft a letter of intent. He should get a new bike. It's brand new and it is still the MoCo's problem also.

This is the way HD is treating most owners here that have problems w/their 07s.Isnt it great to see the real faces of these dealers, the MoCo?Before its all said and done this yrs model is going to end up in some court.HD is pushing the issue too far for too many. Many at HD are going to be out of work, many of these dealers are going to go broke. These customers are pissed and wont be back no matter what the next yrs model is like.
