i'M REBULDING MY 75 IRONHEAD SPORTSTER NOW I WANTED TO KNOW WHERE I CAN GET A .780 WRIST PIN BUSHING REAMER.THE WRIST PIN IS .779 BUT I WAS TOLD I NEED .001 CLEARANCE SO .780 WOULD BE THE TOOL OF CHOICE THE BOTTOM END IS BACK IN THE CASE I WAS TOLD BY A LOCAL SHOP HERE TO USE A HONE LIKE A WHEEL CYLINDER ONE BUT I DON'T THINK THAT WOULD BE A GOOD IDEA
You are correct in that the hone will be a bad idea. That is an odd size, typically .791" I have an adjustable reamer but don't even like to use it, prefer to have the rods out of engine but have done it in a pinch but I have a special long wrist pin I use to realeign the rod to the deck of the case after I'm done. Hope this helps.
OK but where can i get a .780 reamer of the bushings does anyone know any good online store i was going to take it to the local shop but they told me the use a hone on the drill so i said forget it
You do NOT want to use a drill hone. The bushing must be perpendicular to the rod so using a hand held drill you will have no control over this. Bite the bullet and take a pin and rod to a machine shop and have them do it.
