Bassani DNT, turned brown after 200 miles, called Bassani, no help
I finally pull the trigger on some Bassani DNT mufflers, Chrome/Chrome. I get them installed on Thursday afternoon, cleaned them real good with glass cleaner and put it through 4 heating cycles to "Cure" the finish. I'm now ready for my 200 mile trip Friday morning to Las Vegas, just 200 miles from my California home.
Bike is a 2016 FLTRUSE with 4650 miles when installed.
I get there and while unloading the bike I notice the chrome at the inlet is brown. I also see there is a brown discoloration all the way back by the end caps. I have never had any other exhaust manufacturers product do that...ever. My Rineharts on my 14 did it after about 35,000 miles.
I called Bassani today and spoke with a gentleman name Jeremy. I explained the scenario to him and was told they don't warranty any chrome discoloration. I was also told I should have tuned the bike when I put the mufflers on. I told him it is a stock bike with no modifications at all to the engine or exhaust and I can't 'tune' the bike with a cat in the headpipe. He said that makes no difference and I should have read the instructions and warranty card. I told him I did but I have never had an issue like this before with any other exhaust manufacturer and he again said I should have gotten a Stage 1 tune.
I again explained to him it was a CVO with a 110 and there is no Stage 1 upgrade for it. He then told me Harley has a Stage 2 or Stage 3 upgrade they could do to it. I said I had never heard about those upgrades from HD and he said they have them. He said the addition of an exhaust causes a lean rear cylinder and the bike needed to be tuned. I asked him if there was anything he or Bassani could do to help me out with regarding the mufflers and he was adamant about not helping me with any warranty repair, replacement or cost adjustment for the mufflers after just 400 miles.
Man, I am disappointed.

I agree the Bassani boy is a douche. I would also go get a tune or by a device and do it yourself. A proper dyno is worth the money imo, after all how much do we have invested in the bikes to skimp on something that will help so much.
