2016 slim S slip on
Hey everyone,
Not able to get a straight answer from HD on this topic that has been covered 100 times on other bikes. I've got a stock 2016 slim s with a 110 motor and I believe it comes stock with a stage 1 air cleaner. Question is I want to add a V&h 3" slip on, will I need to remap or tune the bike? I hear that cause it has the stage 1 already the ecm will do the job??
Noob to harley so sorry in advance if it's a no brainer.
Thanks

Opening up the exhaust will increase the quantity of air going through the engine.
Do you NEED to get a tuner? Probably not, according to some folks here. But a good versatile tuner would give a big boost in performance, lower the operating temp of the motor and in general make for better response and rideability. Compared to what your new bike cost, a few hundred bucks more would be a no brainer for me.

Your new bike does not have a "Stage 1" on it as it sits now in stock form. What it does have is a less restrictive air cleaner but it still has the catalytic converters in the exhaust pipes. Those are the choking points for this engine. Get rid of those and replace with a free flowing exhaust/slip-ons/resonators and a fuel management device of your choice, then you'll have a "Stage 1" as you call it. The stock ECM unit has the capability to adjust the fuel ratio +/- .03% by itself which in itself will not be enough to keep the bike from running way too lean. So do some studying on which tuner set-up will work best for you.
