You'll see a little heat reduction from eliminating the cat. The only performance improvement will come from getting the tune right, but running the stock mufflers is like sticking a cork up its ***. Do your self a favor and choose a decent slip on muffler, there are some out there that don't make a bunch or racket. A Supertrapp disc type muffler will be pretty tame with a closed end cap.

Still on the fence as to stock mufflers versus slip on, but good to know there are some others who have been satisfied with stock mufflers and new head pipe. Just want to reduce the heat and the god awful detonation problems after riding for a couple hours in the summer heat temps. And trying to keep to a tight budget (divorce cost me one bike already),lol. Thx for the inputs.

I'm currently running an S&S power-tune header with stock mufflers from a '10 FLHR on mine. I had a set of CFR knock-offs on it for a short while, but the noise gets annoying to me pretty quick. I put the stock mufflers back on yesterday. I noticed a small power loss, but I'm willing to give up that small amount of acceleration to lose the noise. I will eventually get a different set, but only after I listen to enough different setups to find just the one I want.

I ran the FM stainless head pipe with stockers for about a month, then the cvo's for a few weeks. As others have mentioned they are both restrictive. Noise wise they are quiet, but...on the hiway you can't here them. When I switched to the Fullsac cores, I couldn't believe the baffles that came out of the cvo's. Really restrictive design for the EPA. If you want more performance look at something like Crusher mellows, or something like the Supertrapp or E-Series from Fuel Moto with disks that you can adjust for sound.

I run the Screamin Eagle night sticks made by Supertrapp and like them a lot.I run 14 disc per side. You can add or remove disc for sound.Really a unique sound. And they have the epa stamps on them.Ten disc per side and there at epa sound level. But I also like the Crusher mellows or the Supertrapp stouts.Im still running the stock head pipe.

I was running a stock gutted header pipe, then took my slip ons and took a cut off wheel and went all the way around the weld where the end baffle is and removed that part completely. When you do that a long tube comes out and its wide open. Then Go buy a Vance and Hines fuel pack or what ever tuner you want and you should be good. Ive rode it like that for 3 years with no issues and put 4,000 miles on it. Just here recently i put a Reinhardt slim line dual hear pipe with still the stock slip on. Now it is loud....but i like it loud. So im happy with it !
