Default Exhaust heat wrap ?

Like to get some feedback on exhaust heat wrap...

I've seen other post saying the pipes were ran hotter on the outside I could see maybe on the inside, but assumed they would be cooler to the touch on the outside is this so ?

Also, any performance differences ?

Any problems with it ?

Wrapped pipes will still burn the Beejezus out of you if touched.
Not really any performance advantages.
The pipes will rust and/or corrode way before they should.

Others that have used them haven't mentioned the rust issue so much ....

Maybe they haven't had them wrapped long enough, but it's a pretty sure bet it will happen.

I've seen more wrapped pipes rust because the owner put the wrap on backwards. Work from back to front so the overlap doesn't catch water/debris.

But YOUR bike, your pipe, your money. Do what you like.

Good luck.

Header wrap in my personal experience is only good for prolonging starter life on a V8 with headers routed near the starter. Even then header wrap does not retain nearly enough heat to be considered effective. That's where custom made heat shields came into play on some of the hot rods I've built when I got tired of replacing starters. On some yes the wrap did promote rusting as you may trap water moisture and corrosive elements to the headers. If heat from the pipes is an issue go faster and if you have any goofy fairings blocking air from flowing that will cause a heat issue as well.

I do it when I don't have heat shields or when pipes are already scraped or crusty. I like the look but I wouldn't wrap perfectly good pipes.

The part about corrosion technically is true, though in reality we rarely see it happen on quality stainless steel pipes.
