Default V&H exhaust popping

Hi there,
I put V&H Short Shots on my 2014 Street Bob and now it pops when I decelerate. I have taken to avoiding compression by engaging the clutch when I let off the gas, which helps a bit, but I would like to fix the issue.

I purchased the quiet baffles (standards are installed) because I read somewhere that the back ptessure might fix the popping. I have not yet installed them.

My concern is the health of the engine. I am heading to sturgis this year from SF and I want to make sure all is right before I take any long hot trips. Does changing the baffles pose any real risk to the engine? Pressure and all?

Sorry, very much a noob here.

You are running lean and either need to install a tuner or Xieds to richen up the bike.

Get yourself a FuelPak 3 and an after market air intake and tune it.

Some incorrectly believe the decel popping and burbling they hear is created by a 'lean' tuning condition. What is actually happening is fresh air is entering the exhaust system mixing with the unburnt fuel coming out of the engine under off throttle situations. When the air-fuel ratio is correct within the pipe the fuel can burn off in the hot exhaust and that's what you're hearing.

The standard remedy is to correct decel enleanment and also prevent the reversion of air in to the exhaust system. XIED's typically can add enough extra fuel off throttle to reduce the decel popping. Obviously a flash tuner like the Power Vision can give you much more refined control over decel enleanment. But your riding style, IE not quite letting off the throttle, an improperly adjusted throttle, or a mal-adjusted TPS sensor can cause the same result of increased decel popping.

A remedy to help prevent the reversion of fresh air in to the exhaust system is to add DK Custom Products Thunder Torque Inserts. The TTI's are designed to increase the velocity of the exhaust gas exiting the system. The 'W' model is a patented design that creates a venturi effect due to its shape, the 'cup' side of the TTI facing the end of the pipe helps prevent air reversion back in to the exhaust which will help minimize the decel popping while increasing low and mid range torque.

Beetroot McKinnley, while this video is of a Sportster you will be able to hear the differences in the Short Shots with and without Thunder Torque Inserts:

Thanks for the replies!

So then, installing the quiet baffles are not likely to solve this problem?

I found the fuelpak fp3, which is tuned with a smartphone app.
If I have that, is the air intake necessary?

You can tune the bike without changing out the air intake.

No an air intake is not necessary nor are those torque inserts. The fp3 should be able to tune your bike and get rid of the popping as long as you do not have any exhaust leaks.

Thanks so much you guys. I appreciate all the answers.
I think I'll get the fuelpak to start with and then see how it goes.
I will also leave the standard baffles installed for now.
