Default Exhaust gasket install?

Hey board bros ... any of you have any ideas of how to install new HD conical style type exhaust gaskets?

They seem fragile and easily bendable.
Right now, I can get one to start, but not able to get it seated without it starting to bend. I stop before I end up destroying it.

Thanks.

Try freezing it. Then use a socket or piece of pipe that is the same size as the Outside Diameter to press it in to place.

And make sure you have removed all of the old ones. They can be so smushed that they look like they are part of the exhaust manifold. Make sure you get all of the old one out.

Then go get new exhaust flange nuts. Look into the new threads and you'll see that there is a crush part in the thread of the new nuts that is there to hold the torque.

You'll still have to re-torque after several full heat cycles and you'll notice when you do this that between the crush gaskets seating in and the heat cycles, the nuts will move tighter after being retorqued again after the heat cycles. Sounds unnecessary but it will seal the exhaust better to the flange. No air leaks.

I use a small section of PVC pipe to push them in straight. You can place a small amount of grease on the pipe lip to hold them on. Easy Peasy!

$41 for a pretty tool vs. $1 for an 1 7/8" pvc collar, I know where my money would go.

Well, as it turns out, I ended up using a 37mm socket ... worked out okay for me!
Once I get it all together, I'm hoping I don't have any leaks.

Thanks for all the tips and help guys!

Sweet golden-egg tools Batman...$41 to swap gaskets. If I was doing it X100/day = yes, but patience and the right size PVC or socket works just as good + much cheaper.

Then there are the screaming eagle type gaskets which are not tapered but in the end you still have to seat it in there.
