204 cams no power or torque when cold
i have a problem and would appreciate any input. i have an 01 electra glide,30k miles, carburated with the true dual r/h exhaust. after finding my cam chain tensioners were bad, i decided to put some 204 cams in while it was tore part. it ran perfect before the cams were installed. now it runs like crap until it gets warms up, 6 or 7 miles. i've had it on a dyno, taken it back where the work was done and he went through it again to make sure it was timed correctly, it was, but still runs like crap. he made a few calls and thought that the s/e iginition would correct the problem. it didn't. after all that, i took it my local dealer and had their #1 wrench on it. he tore it down and checked timing again. it was ok. i have adj. push rods, he adusted them but the poblem still persists. the gas milage went way down too, with some town driving and on the highway, i got 125 miles from a tank. when it's cold, the exhaust sounds different, louder and sounds more like fish tails than rineharts. does anybody have any ideas for me. i' appreciate any input. thanks.

sorry tn...........i forgot, already been thru the intake gaskets too. that was one of the first things that was checked. it looked as if maybe one was leaking a bit, but was replaced already. i even thought maybe the lifters could be at fault, not pumping up till oil is hot and flowing well, but the dealer mechanic says no. also, after it warms up, it really runs quite well, couldn't ask much more from it. well, i always want more, but no more than i've done, it runs good. [&o]hmmmm....i love my scooter and this really brings me down.

hey vic..........that crap in the oil pump might be a possibility, hadn't thought of that yet. while the mechanic that put the cams in (chain driven not gear drive) took it all apart but not sure if he pulled the oil pump and checked it. maybe next time it's in the dealer i'll have em check that. thanks

RE: 204 cams no power or torque when cold
just wanted to say thanks. you was right on with my problem of no power
with the 204 cams until i got severals miles on it as it warmed up. took
it to the dealer and let him know you said, and sure enough there was a problem in that area.seems that when the guy that installed my cams, who is no longer inbusiness, didn't get my oil pump centered, resulting in the pump not scavaging oil in the crank side of the engine. the pump was trash and ended up having to buy a new one. my scoot does run great now, i'm a happy camper. thanks vic.
