RE: carb fine tuning - rich
If the plugs are black after idling for a minute, screw the idle adjust in.
Run the bike on a deserted road, hold the throttle open 1/2 way in 3rd or 4th gear, when safe to do, roll off the throttle, hit the kill switch, coast to a stop, and read the plugs. If they are not light brown, drop the needle.

Rich where?
What throttle position?
0~1/4 = fuel screw. slow jet.
1/4 ~3/4 = needle clip position.
3/4 to WOT = main jet.
When doinga throttle chop use NEW plugs, look at the base ring to determine AFR.

I'mrunning slightly rich, with 46 jet, 3 shims (0.017) and 2 1/2 turns. It pops a bit when cold, plugs areblacker than brown. What would you do, leave as is, remove 1 shim or go to 2 turns?
