My 94 softail 89ci was idling at 1200 rpm i rode it to my local speed shop who know the bike and he said i thought what the hell when u rode up but i was probally riding the gears 2 high in 2 and 3rd gear 3,000 to 3500 rpm he turn the idle down to 1000 rpm from 1200 and it does sound better at idle but neutral is a little harder to find, since this motor was modded for quick pu i wonder did i make a mistake turning the idle down and actuall at time the idle goes all the way down to 850 or 900 rpm ? itried to move this over to the engine forum but there was no add new post option

850 is too low...your engine light probably flickers at that RPM.

I don't think i have an engine light does 1000 or 1200 really make a difference

 

Not sure...I've never been too picky about it. I just maake sure it doesn't sound like it's struggling to run and that it's not racing. But now that I've to a timing light with RPM I suppose I'll check sometime to see what it's set at.
