When I give my bike gas (pass a car for example) I hear a little ping in the front by the front cylinder Not really a ping but the sound that a quarter hitting a glass bottle. I put a pc III on the bike and use the can map that I got from power commander the bike runs good except for that noise. Has anybody have a idea what this could be?

you might want to get it checked out right away! I had a noise comming from my motor, turned out to be the compensating sprocket. It came loose and messed up my fly wheels and my crank.

 

I agree that the sound might be coming from the compensator sprocket.

 

Sounds like detonation. That's a bad thing, and can quickly destry a piston. Too much timing, or not enough fuel. Or both.

 

I hear a similar type of "ping" on my stock 07 FXST. Has anyone heard of the same issue on abike without the mods?

I had a simular sound in the frontcylinder of mine a few weeks ago. I took it back to the local stealer shop in Pensacola and had them check it out. Two days later they said it was ready so when I picked it up they charged me $90.00 and said it was my heat shields and baffles raddling and they are add ons not coveredby warranty.I aruged like He!! with the shop manager that I just tighten my heat sheilds and had check all that out and the noise is coming from the front not the rear. long story short I still had to pay the bill,and having to listen to the managers lies , when I left the shop theengine still made the same noise. This weekend I pulled my Vance &Hines big shots long exhaust off to put my thunder monster baffles in and when I removed my front exhaust gasket I seen where it had been leaking. Replace the gasket and noise gone. Runs great without anymore noisecoming fromthe front of my engine. If you have added aftermarket pipes you might want to check your exhaust gaskets real close.

 

Bob, On my 07 RKC, I am experiencing the EXACT same sound, locationunder the same conditions (full throttle/passing). I called HD to setup an appt to check it out. I hope I don't hear another dumb response like the 5 gear whine....."uh, that's what it's suppose to sound like". If so, I'm really disappointed in HD and this bike. We'll see Friday.
