Default High rpms when letting off gas for 5-10 seconds?

This is a 2002fxstdi and am noticingwhen i let off the throttle to coast at lower speeds the bikesrpms stay a bit high for about 5-10 seconds then drop down to normal and we start slowing up. the cables all seem fine, no sticking . I did notice the other daywhen i started the bike, the idle speed seemed togo to about 2k for a minuteor two.thats only happend once. but the letting off the throttle (while riding) and waitingfor the rpms to drops is continuous. Any ideas? thanks

can you define high rpms?

My bike does that about 50/50, but its like 1100 or 1200 rpms, then it drops to its normal 900'ish idle

Could be a bit lean maybe.

If you running near the middle of the RPMs and crack the throttle wide open for several seconds then close the throttle to something like 7/8 throttle, does the engine seem to gain a little power before stabilizing? If so, you could use a larger / richer main jet.

Oh wait...you said you've got a fuel injected ride didn't you?

Then just disregard what I just said.

Sure sounds like a lean condition to me. Doesn't make any difference if its fuel injected or carbed, lean is lean. Has it always done it, or is this problem something that just cropped up??

Sounds like a possible intake leak to me. Take some WD40 while it's idling (Not hot!) and spray some quick bursts around the intake manifold. If you have a leak, you'll hear the RPM increase when the WD40 gets pulled into the air/fuel path.

Caution: WD40 is extremely flamable. Be careful around hot fins, exhaust etc. Be careful to not let it get pulled into the inlet air stream through the air filter as well or you'll get a false indication.

it is an intake leak
