Default Speedo cable removal

Is it possible to disconnect speed cable from speedo drive, without removing front wheel?


If so can you tell me how, I don't see anything in the book, and it doesn't seem obvious to me.

You'll have to disconnect the speedometer end of the cable, then you should be able to turn the whole cable out of the sender. It just unscrews, unless they changed it between 86 and 97.

Works that way on my '95.

So the outer cable is threaded into the drive unit?

It is that way on my 97 FLHT, Ya do have to have it disconnected from the speedo head. Ya gotta split the fairing on mine.

I've done it on mine without taking the fairing apart, but then I've replaced that cable about 8 times and I can do it by feel now.

You have a speedo cable on a '97?
I thought all '96 and newer had electronic speedos.

It seems they stuck with a cable on a Standard 97 and 98 I believe.
