Default 96 flhtp speedo question

Does the mechanical speedo drive effect the turn signal cancelling? Needle quit moving and no turn signal cancelling , but have not checked the cable yet. Thanks

Yes it does affect the tsm. I am useless in diagnosing which is wrong. Softail: bought cable and the drive was the culprit. FLTR: bought the drive and Speedo was still busted, of course it was the cable... next time I'm just gonna buy both and bet l get it over with. Lol
Good luck,
Tom

The turn signal canceling device works off the Reed Switch, which works off the speedo cable. (On my 93 FLHS) Cable broke = no turny the Reed Switch = no auto cancel.

Yes, there is a white/green wire connected to the back of the speedo unit that connects with the flasher unit. I actually disconnected mine early on because I got hacked off with the darned things switching off at critical moments. You are now in complete control of when they turn off!

Cool

They normally break lower down, due to water getting in. Lightly grease the lower half of the inner, but not the upper half, to avoid the risk of grease getting up inside the speedo. I use a weather-proof tv cable sleeve on the outer, to keep out water.
