Yes bike started right up

Kind of a silly question but should I be filling both tanks when I refuel? This is my first split tank Harley so now it is making me wonder if I'm not doing things right.

Yes fill both sides but fill the left side first. You'll die of old age and our boredom trying fill it from the right side. I have posted the proof in the hijack thread that i have filled 4.1 gallons in a 1995 flstc. Not something you wanna duplicate but possible.

Dang seriously? It got me to thinking this afternoon that I put 2.15+/- gallons in today which would be pretty much half of 4.3 gallons total of the tanks. I'm feeling totally stupid now!!!!

Nah, not at all! Everyone's wondered the same thing at one point. I always fill the right side first, then the left, as the right side's higher on the side stand. My left cap overflows if I fill too high and I've found that filling in this order helps keep that from happening.

Other's may disagree...

Of course others will disagree! That is why we are here :-)

One other thing, did you change the cross-over tube and is it routed correctly?

BTW: One gooooood loooooking bike!

Fill the left side first and put the cap back on, then fill the right.

The right tank is higher than the left tank when the bike is on the jiffy stand.

If you fill the right tank first, then the left you better not waste any time getting the gas cap back on, as the fuel level will still be rising after you stop pumping fuel because the fuel level in the right tank is above the level of the left side gas cap.

When the tanks are full, do not remove the left gas cap.

After you get back on the road, re tighten the caps.
