Does anybody know if LED`s use less volts?

Yes, they do, like Doc said, quite a bit less.

It's not the volts, it's the amps. And they use a lot less amps. Less volts too, technically, but there is a current limiting resistor in series with them usually so they won't burn themselves out. The resistor is sized for whatever voltage supply you are using, ~14V in our case.

If you're thinking about switching out bulbs, like the running/brake light, test the voltage at the running light, at idle. If it's less than 12 volts the LED bulb wont work. I tried that with my bike and it was a no go. I do run LEDs on the tour pack and they work fine.

Incandescent bulbs will still work at less than 12 volts. LED's -- not so much.

wow what a difference I put the truck light headlight in. Now a lot lighter in front and my 1986 FLHTC is even charging with the lights on. Also put in electronic flasher units in stead of the thermal type.Getting ready for LED flashers..THANKS DR.and all else that answered in..
