Default Having trouble removing the fork caps

Item # 3 in the service manual. I cannot remove the cap. The fork is clamped in a vice and when I try to loosen the cap the fork turns. I have put a cheater bar on the vice to make it good and tight, but it still turns. Any advice? thanks

Try to break them loose while still clamped in the triple trees on the bike.

Or a impact wrench might get it in the vise.

You won't get them out off the bike....no way, the fork tubes need to be clamped.

My manual did not say to loosen while the forks were still in the triple trees. Guess I will install and loosen. thanks

They are clamped in the triple tree. They are not moving, but I still cannot budge them.

Got them loose. Needed a bigger hammer. Doubt the forks have ever been serviced.

Had a seal weeping and decided to upgrade with Progressive springs. The fork caps are tough to get back on. Other items, new tires, pack wheels bearings, Progressive touring link, already have the Glide Pro bushings, brass fuel inlet on the carb, new ignition, brakes, check electrical connections, torque bolts, new exhaust, checked the neck bearings and new grease, new lights on the fender tips, new tail light, and deer whistles. Peace of mind and therapy.

They were tough and I could have used this tool. Thanks for the tip and I will purchase and add to the other special tools.
