Well for a bike that has done 100k miles it isn't shining like a trophy, but I do clean it and it takes about 5 minutes, I've got better things to do !!!

My softail has no valvetrain noise, don't know what brand lifters are in there.
Rocker arm end play, lifter block to lifter clearance, and cam gear to pinion gear fit are more likely sorces for noise than the lifters themselves.
