I made this so adj pri chain is easy & quick. Set the steel bar on the shoe block and it touches bottom of chain. Set the 3/4"copper on top of the steel for your 3/4" measurement.
For storage, one fits inside the other.
I would think the aluminum inner and outer primary, and transmission housings is where most of the extra play is taken up.

Yep, Aluminum expands waaay more than steel. About double the amount. That is what I always figured caused the chain to tighten up when hot. You can see from adjusting the back chain on an older bike that it takes hardly any lateral movement of the hub/sprocket to produce and inch of chain slack up and down.
